What is Mulled Wine ?

In Sweden mulled wine is very well-known under the name "Glögg" and enjoyed by most people during Christmas time. Mulled wine is most often spiced-up red wine, but white wine can be used as well. Generally it is served hot or warm.
Maybe the cold climate in Scandinavia is a reason for adding spices to a wine and serve it warm. Mulled wine is often used after being outdoor in winter, and coming indoors to nicely thaw out both body and mind. Also in the European Alps mulled wines are well-known under the name "Glühwein" in Germany and "Vin Chaud" in France.
Isn't the Quality Killed ?
Often mulled wine is made on poor wine as a way to make it at all drinkable. But to the point - by using wine from Villa Sandahl, you can prepare a top luxury mulled wine. And if you have a quality wine as a base, it doesn't need to be overly sweet and doesn't need to be very warm.
Traditionally mulled wine is used alone or with Swedish ginger bread biscuits, in Sweden named "pepparkakor". Rather common is also to add some raisins and almonds into the mulled wine and stir with a small spoon.
Making the Luxury Mulled Wine
The recipe:
(for 500 ml Sandahl wine)
Receptet:
(för 500 ml Sandahls vin)
1 cinnamon stick
1 aniseed star
4 cloves
0,5 dl sugar
(at your own preference)
2 cm ginger in slices
1 ms uncrushed cardamom
1 kanelstång
1 stjärnanis
4 kryddnejlikor
0,5 dl socker
(efter egen smak)
2 cm ingefära i skivor
1 krm hel kardemumma
- Dissolve the sugar in 0,5 dl warm wine
- Put in the spices in the warm wine
- Let it cool down and add the rest of the wine
- Let the wine extract the spices in refrigerator for two days (without air contact)
- Strain off the spices
- ENJOY THE MULLED WINE,
cool, warm or hot !
- Lös upp sockret i 0,5 dl varmt vin
- Tillsätt kryddorna i det varma vinet
- Låt det svalna och addera resten av vinet
- Låt vinet extrahera kryd-dorna i kylskåp  under två dygn (utan lufttillträde)
- Sila bort kryddorna
- NJUT AV GLÖGGEN,
kall, varm eller het !
