2018 SANDAHL 'NOT YET'
(rhine) riesling, genesis vineyard, mid range plus grade, badacsony, hungary.

Label

From the 2018 vintage we have improved our market communication. One improvement is that we have divided our wine portfolio into three grades, informing to which quality level the wine belongs. The three levels are 'Rare peak', 'Mid range', and 'Solid ground' and these three grades are indicated by the back label and by different capsules.

This wine named 'Not yet' belongs to the 'Mid range' level, which is our middle grade (between 'Solid ground' and 'Rare peak'). 'Mid range plus' means that it is the better one of our two 'Mid range' wines.

The theme for 2018 vintage was to identify a traffic sign useful in the illustration of the 'Rare peak' grade, in this case a prohibition sign announcing that jet planes are not allowed to land on the 'Mid range' runway. 'Mid range' bottles are sealed with a nature cork covered with a black capsule with the Sandahl text in white, see below picture.

Weather

The 2018 autumn brought heavy rains between the 1st and 7th of September, causing some rot in lower parts of our vineyards, which didn't perfectly develop to botrytis. Then the autumn proceed like a farmers dream. There was an almost rain free sunny month from the 29th of September to the 27th of October.

We had three distinct harvest periods:
1. 'Normal harvest' period the 18th of September
2. 'Late harvest' period the 4th and 5th of October
3. 'Ultra late harvest' period the 15th and 17th of October

Origin

2018-09-18 Harvest of Genesis low in normal harvest period
2018-09-18 Use of 1st fraction used from pressing above harvest
2018-10-15 Harvest of Genesis high and Genesis grafts west in ultra late harvest period
2018-10-16 Use of 2nd fraction from pressing above harvest
2018-10-17 Harvest of Backyard east and Genesis high and Genesis grafts west & east in ultra late harvest period
2018-10-18 Use of 2nd fraction from pressing above harvest

Some of the grapes in Genesis low had gray rot, but we applied a strict selection at harvest.

Tastings

By Christer Sandahl

  Date 2019-12-04
  Color Light yellow
Smell Rather closed, fresh, apricot, straight forward.
Taste Clean, straight with sharp focus, soft acid but not integrated.
Judgment This wine is more narrow in contrast to 'Dig it' being more diverse, two styles but equally interesting. Fully mature we expect this wine to reach 94 points.

Date 2021-04-14, ahead of spring season.
  Color Medium yellow
Smell Has opened up, but still a bit shy. Fresh, stylish and straight forward.
Taste Clean, well-made, a really beautiful Mid range wine, good concentration and intesity.
Judgment This is really good, in some contrast to 2018 Buy the way. At 93 points today, but fully mature we still expect this wine to reach 94 points.
